another milestone in the development of my (still) new family: the spraying of an anti-fungal agent upon my young son's ballsack. last night, my dear ephelba came into the living room after putting our son (our 'oldest,' now that ephelba is pregnant!) to bed, and told me that the boy probably has some kind of jock itch or some such. apparently the 'area' is red and itchy. but while she was talking to my, i began to sense something amiss. i don't know exactly what, but there was a definite something in her manner what said, 'you had better see to this, since its on his ballsack and all.' ephelba went on about getting some spray, but i knew we already had some, so i called the boy out of bed and we went into the bathroom. here was the start of some outrage, as ephelba tried to follow in. boy wanted as small an audience as possible, and so as lovingly as possible, i shut the bathroom door on her, leaving ephelba on the outside. ephelba made various protests about being locked out, but i think she was secretly relieved. once we were alone and ephelba was effectively muffled, i was horrified to see that ephelba had put the boy to bed wearing a pair of short pants over his boxers! that is a definite no-no in this type of situation, as the ballsack cannot properly 'breathe' or air out, and thus the condition is prolonged. at this point, boy had a moment where he considered whether or not to show me his infected area. now, since he regularly skips through the house in nothing but his skin, usually in search of a towel after his bath, i didn't see what the fuss was about, but i let him come to terms with his decision. after deciding that i 'was a man, too,' and that this made it ok, he made a slight grimace and dropped trou. the offending organ was a bright and angry red, as clear a case of jock itch as ever i've seen. i got out the can of spray, and let him know he was in for a shock as i sprayed. still, he stood his ground. boy made various hilarious dancing motions to try and counteract the cold spray as it contacted his warm skin, and then off to bed with nothing on his bottom. boy was more incredulous at this than having me spray his sack. he was worried that passers-by might look into his window and see him (it is a ground floor bedroom). but he soon warmed up to the idea, and called it 'going freestyle.' and this morning he sprayed his own sack. he's growing up so fast.
